Last week it was put to use for first time at the second engine test – the finished canopy of the fs35. Last year we restored a used Dimona canopy frame, painted it and equipped it with a new, lighter mechanism.
Preparation was key, because there was only one chance to cleanly and without too much tension apply the glass in the intended position. When all was said and done, it went very quickly – apart from the fixation for hardening- with a lot of tape, wooden sticks and other material. We are very happy with the result. At the beginning of the year we were able to paint the canopy frame in the paint booth of the Institute for Aero and Gas Dynamics.
Our special thanks go to the company MECAPLEX who kindly provided us with the glass!
